Build a WordPress Website – AWS Reference Architecture

Building a WordPress website on AWS (Amazon Web Services) involves setting up a scalable and reliable architecture that can handle varying levels of traffic and provide high availability. Here’s a reference architecture for deploying a WordPress website on AWS:

1. Amazon Route 53 (DNS Service):

Purpose: Route 53 is used to manage domain registration and DNS routing for your WordPress website.

2. Amazon S3 (Static Content Hosting):

Purpose: Use S3 to host static assets such as images, CSS, and JavaScript files.
Configuration: Create an S3 bucket and enable static website hosting. Upload your static assets to the bucket.

3. Amazon CloudFront (Content Delivery Network):

Purpose: CloudFront is a CDN that accelerates the delivery of your website’s static content to users worldwide.
Configuration: Create a CloudFront distribution and configure it to use your S3 bucket as the origin.

4. Amazon RDS (Relational Database Service):

Purpose: RDS provides a managed database service for your WordPress website.
Configuration: Create an RDS instance running MySQL or Amazon Aurora. Configure security groups to control access.

5. Amazon EC2 (Elastic Compute Cloud):

Purpose: Use EC2 instances to host the WordPress application.
Configuration: Launch EC2 instances with Amazon Linux or another supported operating system. Install and configure WordPress, PHP, and web server software (e.g., Apache or Nginx).

6. Elastic Load Balancer (ELB):

Purpose: ELB distributes incoming traffic across multiple EC2 instances to ensure high availability and fault tolerance.
Configuration: Create an ELB and configure it to distribute traffic to your EC2 instances.

7. Amazon CloudWatch (Monitoring and Logging):

Purpose: CloudWatch provides monitoring and logging services to track the performance and health of your AWS resources.
Configuration: Set up CloudWatch alarms to monitor key metrics such as CPU utilization, disk space, and network traffic.

8. AWS Identity and Access Management (IAM):

Purpose: IAM allows you to manage user access and permissions for your AWS resources.
Configuration: Create IAM roles and policies to grant appropriate permissions to users and services.

9. Amazon Certificate Manager (ACM):

Purpose: ACM provides SSL/TLS certificates for securing your website with HTTPS.
Configuration: Request and deploy SSL/TLS certificates using ACM for your domain(s).

10. AWS CloudFormation (Infrastructure as Code):

Purpose: CloudFormation allows you to define and manage your AWS infrastructure using code.
Configuration: Create CloudFormation templates to provision and configure your AWS resources in a repeatable and automated manner.

By following this reference architecture, you can deploy a scalable, secure, and highly available WordPress website on AWS. Adjustments can be made based on specific requirements and preferences.
